Recently, the China Wood-based Panel Industry Report 2022, which was prepared under the auspices of the China Forest Products Industry Association and the National Forestry and Grass Administration Industrial Development Planning Institute, was released. The Report discusses and analyzes the production, consumption, layout, international trade, technical equipment, standard quality, environmental protection, safe production and recent industrial policies and hot spots of wood-based panels and adhesives in China in 2021, and studies and judges the future development.

The Report pointed out that in 2021, under the triple pressure of demand contraction, supply shock and expected weakening, China's export volume of wood-based panel products was 16.4636 million cubic meters, up 37.8% year on year (converted); The export volume was 7.225 billion US dollars, up 44.2% year on year. The export volume and export volume showed a strong rebound after two consecutive years of decline, reaching a new high in the past 10 years.

The Report shows that in 2021, China's wood-based panel output will reach 337 million cubic meters, an increase of 8.3% year on year, reaching a new record. Among them, the output of particleboard products increased by 32% year on year. The consumption of wood-based panel products in China is about 318 million cubic meters, with a year-on-year increase of 7.5%. The growth of the consumption of particleboard products is the main factor driving the growth of the total consumption. At the end of 2021, there are more than 13200 wood-based panel production enterprises in China, including nearly 190 large production enterprises and enterprise groups, with a total annual production capacity of about 57 million cubic meters, accounting for 18.1% of the total production capacity. The number of enterprise groups with an annual production capacity of more than 1 million cubic meters has risen to 9.

The Report shows that the technology and equipment innovation capability of the wood-based panel industry has been further improved, and new technologies and equipment have been applied. The operation speed of the domestic continuous press ultra-thin fiberboard production line has exceeded 3 meters per second, which is at the world's leading level; 0.8mm thick ultra-thin fiberboard production equipment has been successfully developed and applied; The automation rate of plywood production line has been gradually improved, and the continuous flat pressing plywood production line is about to be put into operation. Large-scale production of particle/fiber composite plywood products will be realized to further solve the quality problem of plywood cladding; The R&D categories of formaldehyde-free adhesives were further enriched, and the production and consumption of low formaldehyde/formaldehyde-free wood-based panel products increased steadily.

The Report pointed out that over the years, China's wood-based panel industry has provided a large number of high-quality and low-cost raw materials to the world through comprehensive utilization of agricultural and forestry residues, making great contributions to reducing global forest harvesting and coping with climate change.
