German pellet price at summer low
[Jun 26, 2024]

Pellet prices in Germany are at a summer low. The time to buy is favourable.

According to the monthly survey by the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), pelletisers paid an average of € 282.44 per tonne for wood pellets in June. Compared to the previous month, this is a slight increase of 0.6 % after a long time. According to DEPI, one kilowatt hour of heat from pellets costs 5.65 cents. The price saving compared to both heating oil and natural gas is more than 40 %.

Online prices fell once again in June
In contrast, a further fall in prices was recorded on the online markets for wood pellets in June. On 24 June, heizpellets24.de reported a nationwide average price of €253.74 per tonne. A month earlier, it was still €261.80 per tonne. This is a fall of around 8 €/t or 3 %.

The downward trend at holzpellets.net is somewhat less pronounced: Here, the daily price on 24 June averaged €268.34/t, compared to €269.46 a month earlier, a good euro more.

All in all, there are signs that pellet prices are approaching their summer low. It is unlikely that prices will fall much further this year. Anyone who needs pellets should buy them now .

DEPI regional prices
In June 2024, the DEPI calculates the following regional prices (purchase 6 tonnes): In southern Germany, the price is €278.24 per tonne, followed by central Germany with an average price of €283.05 per tonne. In northern and eastern Germany, the average price is €297.87 per tonne.

Larger quantities (26 tonnes) are traded at the following conditions in June 2024 South: €262.61/t, Centre: €265.04/t and North/East: €278.37/t (all prices incl. VAT).
