prices rise significantly in December |
According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), the market price of wood pellets in December 2024 increased by 2.5% compared to the previous months of October and November, reaching an average of €286.04 per tonne (purchased volume of 6 tonnes), but is still 13% lower than in the same period last year. ¡®The wintry temperatures in many places combined with the upcoming public holidays have noticeably increased demand. However, the price of pellets remains moderate,¡¯ says DEPI Managing Director Martin Bentele. A kilowatt hour of heat from wood pellets currently costs 5.72 eurocents per kilowatt hour. The price advantage over heating oil is 40 per cent and 46 per cent over natural gas. The German Pellet Institute collects the pellet price by region and sales volume for the DEPV. According to DEPV, consumers should pay particular attention to the quality of the pellets when buying pellets in order to ensure trouble-free operation of their heating system.
