Germany's Beech log exports well above last year’s level
Germany's beech log exports were off to a strong start of the
year. Just under 158,000 m3 in January and February represent
the biggest export volume of the past six years.
Germany: Start of the year slightly better than in 2024
In January and February, Germany increased its beech lumber
exports by 2%. China in particular has intensified its trade
relations, but exotic markets such as Vietnam have also received
more beech lumber from German producers this year.
Decreasing softwood lumber exports
At the beginning of this year, Germany increased its deliveries
to the US, the Netherlands and Canada, whereas substantially
smaller volumes were exported to other countries. In the first
two months, exports saw a double-digit decrease compared to last
year.
Chipboard exports with a stable development
In the first two months, German exports of chipboards and OSB
remained at the same level recorded last year. Increases were
recorded in nearly all main foreign markets but were, however,
offset by decreases in exports to Poland, China and Italy.
Exports of softwood logs down by 280,000 m3
In the first two months, German softwood log exports decreased
substantially compared to the same period last year. This
decrease is mainly the result of reduced delivery volumes to the
Top 3 foreign markets.
