The Swedish Forest Agency reported that roundwood prices
increased for both sawlog and pulpwood during the first quarter
of 2025 in comparison with the fourth quarter of 2024. The
sawlog price increased by 11 percent and pulpwood by 5 percent.
This is shown in the Swedish Forest Agency's statistics on
roundwood prices for delivery timber.
Regionally, the greatest increase in sawlog prices was in
Svealand by 12 percent, followed by Götaland with 11 percent. In
Södra Norrland, the sawlog prices increased by almost 6 percent
while the prices in Norra Norrland increased by 5 percent
compared to the last quarter of 2024. Regarding pulpwood prices,
the greatest increase was in Norra Norrland by 15 percent
followed by Götaland with an increase of 5 percent. The increase
in Svealand amounted to 4 percent while the decrease in Södra
Norrland were 1 percent.
Continued increase compared with the first quarter of 2024
If focus is instead shifted to comparing with the same quarter
last year, then the trend of increasing roundwood prices
continues. Sawlog prices overall increased by almost 30 percent.
Regionally, the sawlog prices increased by 34 percent in
Götaland followed by Svealand with 32 percent. In Södra Norrland
and Norra Norrland prices also increased, by 20 and 16 percent
respectively, compared to the first quarter of 2024.
Pulpwood prices overall increased by 23 percent in comparison
with the first quarter of 2024. The increase was greatest in
Svealand and Götaland by almost 27 percent, followed by Södra
Norrland and Norra Norrland by almost 15 and 14 percent
respectively.
Explanations
Delivery timber refers to a delivery method where the forest
owner, either personally or with the help of employees or
contractors, delivers the timber to a roadside. Delivery timber
is estimated to account for less than 10 percent of total sold
quantity.
Average prices are volume-weighted roundwood quantities,
presented in current prices without adjustments for inflation.
The statistics are part of Sweden's official statistics.
