Pellet prices continue to fall in April—despite the war in Iran,
rising timber prices, and skyrocketing energy costs. Owners of
pellet stoves can therefore expect their heating costs to
decrease. Market observers and pellet buyers alike believe this
downward trend could continue.
Pellet prices continue to fall in April. And this is despite
record-high prices for heating oil and gas, as well as very high
prices for wood and firewood. Loose pellets have dropped by 30
euros since the beginning of March. Bagged pellets have become
nearly 20 euros cheaper over the same period. The reason for the
price decline is, on the one hand, the gradual end of the
heating season and, on the other hand, the sharp drop in demand
from pellet buyers following the last steep price increase in
February.

Many pellet buyers believe the current price decline could even
continue throughout April and are holding off on purchases for
now. The experts at Heizpellets24 noted the expected trend as
early as March: In most years, prices begin to fall by April at
the latest. With the exception of 2013 and 2022, this has always
been the case over the past 20 years, and it also looks as
though wood pellets will become significantly cheaper in 2026.
They further state: In line with market trends, increased
stockpiling activity among pellet customers is expected starting
in April. The price level is therefore likely to fall more
slowly and to a lesser extent than in previous years, at least
according to the experts at Heizpellets24. However, neither the
surge in energy prices during the Iran war nor the persistently
high wood prices have been able to slow the recent price
decline.
In March, pellet prices fell more sharply than expected. At the
beginning of April, pellet prices continued to decline. Prices
for bagged pellets, in particular, have dropped significantly
this week.
Pellet prices continue to fall in April
At the start of the first week of April, pellet buyers are
paying an average of 370 euros (for a total purchase of six
tons, plus a delivery fee) for bulk pellets. That is 30 euros
less than at the beginning of March, when prices stood at 400
euros. Bagged pellets cost 405 euros per ton at the start of
April, which is just under 20 euros less than at the beginning
of March.
