Uncertain Market Situation
The sawmill industry indicates that prices for spruce sawlogs
will remain more or less at current levels as we move into the
second quarter. The aim is to prevent the supply of timber from
drying up. The leading product range, spruce grade B, Media 2b+,
is currently fetching prices of 127 to 130 euros per solid cubic
meter (net, free on road).
However, there are external circumstances that are introducing
uncertainty into market conditions in the medium term, which is
why careful coordination of scheduled timber harvesting is
essential. Due to the war in Iran, there are large quantities of
sawn timber that cannot be sold at their original destination.
This increases supply in other markets, which could put pressure
on sawn timber sales. Consequently, the upstream roundwood
market is also subject to uncertainty.
Demand for industrial roundwood remains high, and prices are
stable. There are corresponding bonus payments for fresh
coniferous industrial roundwood at the level of sawn timber.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, the bark beetle is
becoming active again. With the rising temperatures, there is
also an increased risk that wood stored for longer periods will
be infested by blue stain fungi. Therefore, as always, it is
important to coordinate planned harvests well in advance with
potential buyers.
