GOVERNMENT CLIMBS ON CERTIFICATION
BANDWAGON CANADA: Small businesses in British Columbia will be obliged to conform with environmental certification standards to qualify for their government-issued licences, under the Forests Statutes Amendment Act recently passed by the provincial government. Forests Minister Michael de Jong says the move will help to make their wood more attractive to buyers around the world. The BC Government's Small Business Forest Enterprise Program has developed an environmental management system to comply with ISO 14001, and the Chilliwack and Sunshine Coast forest districts' small business programmes have already been certified.
